Welcome to
Shifty Critters Homestead

A small Alabama homestead with a big heart, sharing the slow, seasonal, sometimes mischievous stories of our adventures and the critters who keep us humble.

Around here, the seasons set the pace, and the critters keep us humble. Shifty Critters Homestead is growing one muddy boot, one bottle‑fed lamb, and one answered prayer at a time — with plenty of laughter in between. If you’d like to follow along as we build this little farm into something nourishing and good, we’re glad to have you here.

Why We Do This

We believe good food begins long before it reaches a plate. It grows out of early mornings, muddy boots, and the kind of days where plans change ten times before lunch. We’re learning as we go — fumbling through old skills, celebrating small wins, and trusting the seasons to teach us what they will. Shifty Critters Homestead is our way of stewarding what we’ve been given, one imperfect attempt and one faithful season at a time, so that whatever we grow or make can nourish the people around us.

Meet the Critters

Every day on this little patch of land is shaped by the animals who share it with us. They’re curious, stubborn, gentle, chaotic, and endlessly entertaining — and they’re the reason chores take twice as long and feel twice as meaningful. These are the faces that greet us at the gate, follow us down the fence line, and remind us why slow, attentive care matters.

Seasonal Notes

This time of year is all about beginnings. We’re sketching out the garden beds, tucking berry bushes into the soggy mud, and gathering the tools we’ll need for this year’s round of fence‑building. The days are still unpredictable, but the work feels hopeful — small steps toward the season ahead. These notes are our way of marking what’s happening right now, in real time, as the farm slowly wakes up again.
